The Digital Government Act has been passed by the House of Representatives. The Digital Government Act aims to regulate the safe and reliable logging for Dutch citizens and companies with the (semi-) government. Safe and reliable login means that citizens are given electronic identifiers (eID) with a higher degree of reliability than the current DigiD. These identifiers give public service providers more certainty about one’s identity. The law also requires open standards. In doing so, the Netherlands implements the EU directive on accessibility of government websites and apps. where eIDAS and AVG are hard requirements for private participants to have regulated access to the identity domain of the government. Now the first chamber has yet to agree to a public-private identity system.
