Gerard Hartsink

Gerard Hartsink serves in organizations developing and promoting (legal and technical) standards for the international supply chains and for e-commerce. (B2B and C2B). He serves as the Chair of the ICC Digital Trade Standard Initiative Industry Advisory Board to realize further digitalisation of the international supply chains.

He delivered the ISO TC 307 Technical Report 6039 “Identifiers of subjects and objects for the design of blockchain systems” with a comprehensive overview of all available standards and their registers relevant for among more the international supply chains and the capital markets As member of the ECB’s Digital Euro Market Advisory Group and his task for ISO TC68 AG5 Digital Currencies he is actively involved in the design of CBDCs also for cross-border payments. As editor of the Journal of Payments Strategy and Systems he has an extensive global network of managers and experts of the payments industry.

During his career he acquired a broad experience in identity-management and the payments, forex and securities industries. He served as the Chairman of the Boards of GLEIF, CLS Bank International, the European Payments Council and as Convenor of RMG of ISO 20022 and as Board Member of SWIFT, LCH, Euroclear Netherlands, Euro Banking Association (EBA) and Electronic Commerce Platform Nederland.

As former Senior Executive Vice President of ABN AMRO Bank he has a broad experience in sales, product development, regulatory affairs, information management and operations.

He holds MA degrees in political economy from the University of Amsterdam and in law from the Free University in Amsterdam.
