SUMMARY:IDnext Lunch Break: How do you put citizens in charge of data? Can self-sovereign identity make the difference?
DESCRIPTION:Ambitions run high at the municipality of The Hague. The city council has confirmed its ambition regarding digitisation\, using the motto ‘Hague Services: personal\, easy and reliable’. Thus\, it acknowledges that digitisation is an inherent part of municipal services. Participation on the part of the inhabitants dovetails seamlessly and forms an integral part of a successful implementation of the council’s vision. However\, this also entails new issues. \nOne such issue is self-sovereign identity (SSI). It is seen as the motor behind smooth interaction in the online economy that has a direct impact on the physical world. However\, interaction by the government is requisite. Thus\, SSI provides citizens with new opportunities to take charge of their personal data (privacy) and\, for instance\, forego the necessity to log in with a password. \nDuring this online IDnext Lunch Break\, Nils Hoole (Policy Adviser at the municipality of The Hague) will present an update on the developments regarding SSI within ‘his’ municipality. What does this mean for The Hague\, its services and its inhabitants? What does it take to use SSI\, and how is the vision expressed in the implementation? \nFurther information about Nils Hoole \nNils is 26 years old and lives in The Hague. He has worked at the Information and ICT department of the municipality of The Hague for 2.5 years. He was appointed Policy Adviser Digital Identity last May\, but before that date\, he handled various topics regarding digitisation\, such as  privacy\, security\, data\, algorithms\, AI and Blockchain. As a result of successfully completing his dissertation on automated government decision making\, he was intrinsically motivated to contribute to putting the government ICT landscape in order\, focussing particularly on citizen perceptions. Therefore\, Nils believes that self-sovereign identity is a huge step in the right direction. \nNote for non-Dutch speakers: the language of the lunchbreak is Dutch. Kan Self-sovereign identity hierin het verschil maken? \nDe ambitie van Gemeente Den Haag is hoog. Met het motto ‘Haagse Dienstverlening: Persoonlijk\, gemakkelijk en betrouwbaar’ heeft de Gemeenteraad zijn ambitie op digitalisering en dienstverlening bekrachtigd. Hiermee wordt erkend dat digitalisering een onlosmakelijk onderdeel is van de gemeentelijke dienstverlening. Participatie vanuit de inwoners sluit hierbij naadloos aan en maakt integraal onderdeel van een succesvolle implementatie van de visie. Maar dit brengt ook nieuwe vraagstukken met zich mee. \nSelf-sovereign identity (SSI) is zo’n vraagstuk. Het wordt beschouwd als de motor voor een soepele interactie in de online economie met directe impact op de fysieke wereld. Maar interactie vanuit de overheid is vereist. SSI biedt daarmee inwoners nieuwe mogelijkheden om aan hen regie te geven op hun eigen gegevens (privacy) en bijvoorbeeld niet meer te hoeven inloggen met een wachtwoord. \nIn deze IDnext lunchbreak geeft Nils Hoole (beleidsadviseur Gemeente Den Haag) een update over de ontwikkelingen van SSI binnen Gemeente Den Haag. Wat betekent dit voor de Gemeente\, haar dienstverlening en de burgers? Wat is hiervoor nodig en hoe wordt de visie vertaald in uitvoering? \nMeer informatie over Nils Hoole \nNils is 26 jaar en woont in Den Haag. Hij is 2\,5 jaar werkzaam bij de Directie Informatie en ICT van Gemeente Den Haag. Sinds afgelopen mei bekleedt hij de functie beleidsadviseur digitale identiteit\, maar hij heeft zich daarvoor veel beziggehouden met andere thema’s rondom digitalisering\, zoals  privacy\, security\, data\, algoritmen\, AI en blockchain. Door het succesvol afronden van zijn rechtenopleiding met een scriptie over geautomatiseerde besluitvorming door de overheid\, is bij hem de intrinsieke motivatie ontstaan om een bijdrage te leveren aan het op orde krijgen van het ICT-landschap van de overheid. En dan met name vanuit de beleving van de inwoners. Nils gelooft dan ook dat self-sovereign identity een enorme stap in de goede richting is. \nDeze lunch break sessie zal in het Nederlands zijn. \nRegistratie voor deze lunch break is binnenkort beschikbaar.
